Between Teutoburger Platz and Schönhauser Allee is the Pfefferberg – an ensemble of historic buildings and courtyards, first built to function as a brewery of the Bavarian brewmaster Pfeffer. Today the site houses a mixture of cultural workers, socio-cultural institutions, small businesses, galleries and gastronomy. In addition to the renovation and added architecture, the development model of the area is exemplary, as it was done in a sustainable socio-culturally responsible way and is now continued in the company. In order to link the need for renovation and development with charitable activities and goals, the property was incorporated into the Pfefferwerk Foundation, which has granted building rights for the development of buildings and today realizes social projects with the Erbpachtertägen. On 4 June 2018, the development model will be presented to the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) in Brussels. In December 2017, the building’s cultural endeavors received an award and the ensemble was included in the European Route of Industrial Heritage. With the construction of the Atelierhaus Pfefferberg the development of the area has been completed. In the new building, the chairman of the Pfefferwerk Foundation, Margitta Haertel – project developer and general planner of the area, Klaus D. Krebs the architect of the studio, and Justus Pysall inform and discuss the foundation and the architecture of the ensemble.
