The multifunctional building project Metropolenhaus am Jüdischen Museum is part of the new urban district at Südliche Friedrichstadt in Berlin. From its central location at a site, the Metropolenhaus does not only want to take its profits but wants to contribute to the city and its inhabitants long-term.
With their claim to design, which is rooted in the city’s urban mixture, bfstudio-architekten develop a recovery of the so-called Berliner Mischung, that connects living, trade and production in a modern way. With its special economic concept of cross-financing and its programmatic concept of the curated usage of the ground floor for (inter-)cultural and social projects, the Metropolenhaus takes responsibility for the (social) development of our city and the preservation of the central quarter’s diversity.
During the MakeCity festival and Tag der Architektur visitors can take part in a guided tour through and around the Metropolenhaus. The tour mainly gives insights into the active ground floor’s project spaces, the adjoining gastronomy and the store spaces.
