Twenty of the most promising French architects and landscape architects, winner of the AJAP prize (“Albums of Young Architects and Landscape Architects”), are presented in an exhibition curated by architect and journalist Karine Dana. The prize, awarded every two years by the French Ministry of Culture was created to promote young talents under thirty-five years and to support fresh and innovative ideas in the fields of architecture and landscape architecture. In this exhibition, the winners and their projects are introduced by image and text material, as well as short presentation clips. The positions defended by the 20 laureate teams of the 2016 AJAPs offer a rare opportunity to grasp from the inside the profound transformation sweeping through all generations of the professions of architect and landscape architect. The exhibition will be touring around Germany with stops in the Institut français of Munich, Berlin, Cologne and Hamburg.
In the framework of the exhibition, AJAP prizewinners Sébastien Martinez Barat and Benjamin Lafore will talk about their work on the “Folies”, landscape-integrated elements between architecture and sculpture, on the 27th June. During a residency at the Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, they designed a series of these small-scale buildings without any obvious intended function, but rather approached as possible architectural styles, and started working on this concept. Traditionally designed for decoration of landscaped parks, such “Folies” can serve as tools for characterizing metropolitan environments.
