The history of the ‘Centre Français de Berlin’ is closely connected with Berlin’s history and the German-French relations. Up until 1992 the French Allies in Berlin operated the former Centre Culturel Français as an institution for culture and the arts.
As a consequence of the fall of the Berlin wall, the four occupying forces left Germany. Yet the mission to establish relations between people despite a shared history of war remains the mission of the centre’s successor. Founded by a French association and the SPI-Stiftung in 1995, today the Centre Français is mostly engaged in exchange projects.
