Intersecting interfaces and individual production: linking human and machine to produce new architectural possibilities
The concept of the city as the epicentre of culture, inspiration and the creative process stands in stark contrast to its periphery of industrial manufacturing. This division — between city as a cultural centre and industry as a place of production — has historically grown in the European context, but is becoming increasingly redundant. Today, the interactions between man and machine make it possible to impact the manufacturing process, from design to end-product, and marks a turning point in returning production to the city. Set against an experimental demonstration backdrop, a dialogue emerges between teaching, practice, and policy, about the return of manufacturing to the city.
