PLUG-IN is an architectural project that involves the construction of a prototypical greenhouse within a refugee shelter. This satellite will be set up in the courtyard of the Dutch Embassy and used for MakeCity Festival. The experimental project aims to promote new spatial and social forms of coexistence and to enable integration and social transformation through high quality design. The Home Not Shelter! Initiative thus extends the often precarious housing situation of refugees and creates a spatial situation that offers the residents the perspective of active employment beyond mere accommodation. PLUG-IN is developed and built in a collaborative process by students of TU Berlin, together with refugees. The experimental space serves as a meeting place during the festival. The pavilion, built in prefabricated modular construction, will be dismantled at the end of the festival and permanently made available to refugee accommodation as a common room for special activities.
