Baynatna – The Arabic Library in Berlin, started as an initiative of German, Jordanian and Syrian Arabic literature enthusiasts in 2016. The project became tangible when, in 2017, architecture students of TU Berlin, led by Prof. Donatella Fioretti and Marc Benjamin Drewes, planned and built a flexible modular furniture system for an emergency shelter. Following the story of how the project originated (and ended up at the biggest public library in Germany), the initiative will hold one of their recurring events: #salon is a platform hosting a series of discussion panels with artists, creatives and activists in exile from various fields. In this edition, Creating Art Post Displacement, Syrian artists are invited to talk about their experiences as local artists in Syria – and currently, in their new hosting communities.
