How do different uses of publicly accessible private spaces such as shopfronts contribute to a local community? Some are used to retail necesssairy goods, others luxuries. Some oganize community services such as language courses and music. Others stand empty and some are used for temporarily projects. How do the neighbours of a neighbourhood perceive these spaces that are open for them to use? Do you have a say in what kinds of public/private enterprises move into your hood?
We are a one-year art project disguised as a tailor shop for Electronic Textiles and Wearable Technology. Our hood is the Wranglekiez of Berlin Kreuzberg and we want to hear stories of the use of publicly accessible yet privately owned space in this kiez. What different kinds of use of such space do we know of? What forms of enjoyment and enrichment do such spaces provide us and our neighborhood(s) with?
To frame this discussion we will first hear short stories from invited individuals and then open up the conversation to everybody.
Invited Speakers: the local, the shop owner, the community center, the theorist, the experiment
