Architecture surrounds us all. At the same time, architectural and urban development processes are often alienated from the later user, and are held in technically delineated spaces. But if architecture is not actively communicated and developed together with the would-be-user, identification with the built environment will hardly take place.
The event is concerned with the question of how participatory, integral development processes can change, improve architecture and therefore make it more sustainable. These questions are posed in short impulse presentations, and a fishbowl-discussion: what are the differences, and what is congruent with participatory approaches in rural and in urban areas of Europe? How does participation work in developing countries? How can we create understanding and identification ‘from the bottom’?
