Be Creative: Making a Living in the New Culture Industries is the title of a book by Angela McRobbie and serves as a starting point for an evening of discussion on the interrelations of creative work, gender and urbanism. McRobbie proposes that “the dispositif of ‘creativity’ is an instrument for acclimatising the expanded, youthful urban middle classes to a future of work without the security which previous generations had struggled to win.” Tatjana Turanskyj’s film Eine flexible Frau is part of a trilogy on women and work and deals with urban change and gentrification in Berlin. Jia Gu has a special interest in critical practices in architecture and design. She is currently Director of the architecture exhibition space Materials & Applications in Los Angeles and is a co-founder of Spinagu.
The event will be held in English, admission is free.
