The Polish Institute Berlin is a diplomatic mission of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. Based in London, the Institute is dedicated to nurturing and promoting cultural ties between Germany and Poland, both through German exposure to Poland 's cultural achievements, and through exposure of Polish artists and scholars to German trends, institutions, and professional counterparts. Its programme covers the visual arts, film, theatre, music and literature.
Polish sculptor Katarzyna Krakowiak, born in 1980, works with a range of different media – mostly sound – to explore the limits of architecture, often incorporating existing buildings and urban structures into her pieces. For her expansive installations, she also makes extensive use of the Internet and the possibilities of mobile communication, cooperating with architects and set designers to realise them. For her exhibition “Making the walls quake as if they were dilating with the secret knowledge of great powers”, the artist received an honourable mention at the Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2012. The Polish Institute Berlin presents s an exhibition of the artist’s work in its gallery at Hackescher Markt.
