Citizens take part in innumerable co-creation initiatives within both the private and the public domains and crucially, in the gap in between the two. These initiatives make use of open-source concepts most commonly associated with the smart city – prosumer, bottom-up, peer-to-peer, social and open design. From an urban perspective the already well-established creative city will merge with the smart city into a new ‘Co-creative City’. For those that reside within them, this fusing gives rise to the citizen who too, is both creative and smart; thereby shaping ‘The New Civic’.
