Program

Taking inspiration from Japanese street observers such as Genpei Akasegawa, Wajiro Kon and the Bow-Wow studio Edenspiekermann are interested in the surprising and situational use of space on city streets. For this tour in Neukölln, they will focus upon the Berlin phenomenon of Baumscheiben: the spaces around the city’s trees. Berliners have made extensive use of them, giving them a range of characters. They can be flower gardens, vegetable plots, waste storage sites or even a place to sit. This micro workshop will kick off with a presentation about the different ways to walk a city, before the group heads out into public space, observing, photographing and analysing tree surrounding in Neukölln, to be followed by a discussion about the findings.
