The Heinrich Böll Foundation is political thank tank for green ideas and projects, a reformist political future workshop and an international network. The foundation works with over a hundred partner projects in more than sixty countries and currently has offices in thirty of them. During Make City’s first year The Heinrich Böll Foundation is the festival's main sponsor and it has developed a discussion series of four events, which will take place at the Foundation’s headquarters located in Schumann Strasse 8.
The profile of the term “urban commons” has never been higher in public consciousness – but it has been understood in a multitude of ways. To some concerns the appropriation of land for public use, whilst others relate it to a bottom-up debate about public goods and infrastructures. This panel will address a key strand of the Make City Festival’s programme: how can such a debate on the meaning of the term act as catalyst for innovation when it comes to the future development of spaces and services for “public purpose”?
