Residential architecture is often just a spacial expression of our basic needs. It should be both durable and affordable, at the same time fulfil the requirements of various generations. It is supposed to satisfy the investors, comply with norms and standards, save energy, respect monument protection and make the inhabitants happy. Architects, trying to deal with all such tasks simultaneously, don\u2019t always manage to realise their designs and concepts due to the compromises that need to be taken along the way. At the end, it is quite often the soulless consensus architecture that gets built, which is at the same time harmless and disappointing. It could be different, if architecture stopped just fulfilling the norms it is supposed to, but expand, change and reform them. \u201cDifferent living\u201d compares six positions on contemporary architecture.<\/p>\n
