To influence what the future might look like, one must design it, which is precisely the task that Arup&#8217;s global Foresight + Research + Innovation team, led by Dr Chris Luebkeman, engage with every day. In the coming century urban society faces many challenges; some we know about &#8211; the increasing capacity for artificial intelligence and smart technologies to render architects and engineers obsolete &#8211; and some we don\u2019t &#8211; what happens when cancer is eliminated but malaria no longer curable?
