Initially an art project in 2001, the third generation of beehives by architects Sauerbruch Hutton will be premiering in Berlin this summer.

In close cooperation with beekeeper and filmmaker Marian Engel, Sauerbruch Hutton developed six modularly extendable beehives for the garden of Berlin’s Academy of Arts. Tailored to the needs of their residents, these beehives also correspond with the context of the garden, as well with the surrounding high-rises of the famous Hansaviertel.

The architects and beekeeper invite you on a tour, to learn more about urban beekeeping, the diverse flora of the Academy Garden, the architectural features of the beehives and – last but not least – to get a taste of the honey.
