Program

After the closing of the legendary BAR 25 in 2012, seven bar owners joined forces as a cooperative to win over commercial investors, and were awarded the contract for the property!
By 2025, an innovative quarter fusing nature, culture and work will be up and running in the centre of Berlin: Holzmarkt. It’s main architectural component, “the village”, is a commercial cluster that includes a club and restaurant situated on the banks of the Spree.
In close collaboration with the cooperative and user groups, an architectural team has devised the development strategy: a simple, intuitive regulatory framework that enables long-term participatory planning and use of the village, accommodating DIY construction, spontaneous developments and changes of use. Join this Studio Talk for a report and discussion about the experiences of those involved.
